Norfolk Sports Club Announces Scholarship RecipientsThe Norfolk Sports Club awarded 24 scholarships to outstanding student athletes throughout Hampton Roads. Included is a brief Brief History of the Named Scholarships: James G. Parke - A golf scholarship established in 1965 by Roy R. Charles in memory of a Past President (1955) of the NSC. This year's recipient is Ryann M. Tanap. Ryann is a graduate of Landstown High School and is headed to William & Mary. Roy R. Charles - Established in 1977 in honor of a long devoted member of the NSC and awarded annually to a student with a high GPA. This year's recipient is Ashby B. Stancill. Ashby is a graduate of Lakeland High School and is headed to UVA. Pete & Bess Decker/TowneBank - Established in 2007 and awarded to an outstanding student athlete. This year's recipient is April G. Winston of Lake Taylor High School and is headed to Hampton University. Tim Timmons - Established in 1987 in honor of the first and long time treasurer of the Scholarship Foundation and a dedicated member of the NSC. Awarded to a recipient most involved in school and community activities. This year's recipient is Shantoya R. Evans. Shantoya is a graduate of Norview High School and is headed to VCU. John A. & John J. Baecher - Established in 1988 by the Baecher family in honor of their grandfather and father. This year's recipient is Korie A. Grayson. Korie is a graduate of Maury High School and is headed to William & Mary. Donald G. Griffin - Established in 1994 by long time dedicated NSC member and former principal of Granby High School and awarded annually to a Granby graduate. This year's recipient is Anthony Scurria. Anthony is a graduate of Granby High School and is headed to Virginia Tech. James Hudgins - Established in 1995 by the Hudgins family in memory of their husband and father, a dedicated NSC member. Awarded to a graduating baseball player. This year's recipient is Chase T. Noel. Chase is a graduate of Princess Anne High School and is headed to Virginia Tech. William Litton - Established in 1995 in his memory and awarded to a graduating baseball player. This year's recipient is Blake C. Sheldon. Blake is a graduate of Granby High School headed to ODU. Marty Brennaman - Established in 2001 in honor of his many contributions to the Tidewater area. Awarded to a Portsmouth High School graduate. This year's recipient is a repeat recipient, Derrick L. West of I. C. Norcom High School and is headed back to VCU. Alfred E. Abiouness - Established in 2002 by the Abiouness family to honor their husband and father, a longtime NSC member. Awarded to a golfer from Norfolk Catholic High School or any local high school as qualification permits. This year's recipient is Kelly C. McAnally a repeat recipient of Landstown High School and is headed back to Longwood University. Past President's Award - Established in 2003 and awarded to an outstanding student athlete selected by a committee of Past Presidents. This year's recipient was awarded Sabrina A. Medel of Tallwoood High School and headed to ODU. Father Edward L. Richardson - Established in 2008 in memory of our dearly beloved Chaplain; who was a friend to all. This year's recipient is Amy E. Jacobson of Indian River High Schol and headed to William & Mary. Twelve students were awarded the Norfolk Sports Club Scholarships. Brett R. Annett from Lake Taylor High School is headed to Virginia Tech. Katherine L. Becker from Princess Anne High School is headed to UVA. Bianca N. Baker is a repeat recipient from Wilson High School is headed to Virginia Tech. Jacob A. Biggs from Norview High School is headed to Longwood. Sheanita L. Bryant from Cape Henry Collegiate School and is headed back to Mary Washington. Shane Ryan Doherty from Kings Fork High School and is headed back to Christopher Newport. Andrew T. Joyner from Cox High School is headed to ODU. Kristen M. Robertson from Granby High School is a repeat recipient is headed to ODU. Jordan A. Rolince from Tallwood High School is headed to Virginia Wesleyan. Tanisha S. Robinson a repeat recipeint from Norview High School is headed back to Norfolk State. Kristin N. Sachs a repeat recipient from Western Branch High School is headed back to James Madison University. Marquise A. Sills from Cox High School and is headed to George Mason University. The Norfolk Sports Club Scholarship Foundation was established in 1950 and one scholarship of $250 was awarded. In the past thirteen years (1990-2002), a total of 290 students have received $619,000 in scholarships. During the entire 53 year period of scholarship awards, over $1,000,000 in financial support has been provided to 444 student athletes. | Brief History of the Named Scholarships |
James G. Parke - A golf scholarship established in 1965 by Roy R. Charles in memory of a Past President (1955) of the NSC.

David Paul Weir - Established in 1992 by the mac Weir family in memory of their son, David. It is awarded annually to a graduate of Cox or Western Branch High School.
Donald G. Griffin - Established in 1994 by long time dedicated NSC member and former principal of Granby High School and awarded annually to a Granby graduate.
James Hudgins - Established in 1995 by the Hudgins family in memory of their husband and father, a dedicated NSC member. Awarded to a graduating baseball player from Cox or First Colonial High School.
William Litton - Established in 1995 in his memory and awarded to a graduating baseball player.
